ZAVADSKI: Stunning New Showroom Is Changing the Vibe of Burggasse

On Burggasse, where the unexpected thrives, a handcrafted lighting showroom alongside contemporary art feels like a perfect harmony with the street's vibrant essence.

When I saw the Wirtschaftsagentur Wien post about the new ZAVADSKI showroom opening in Neubau, I felt that familiar spark I get whenever Vienna quietly unveils another corner of its creative soul.

Burggasse has always been one of those streets where you expect to find something unexpected, and the idea of a handcrafted lighting showroom paired with contemporary art fits the district’s rhythm perfectly.

ZAVADSKI’s story is one of those cross‑border narratives that feel increasingly natural in Vienna. A family business from Western Ukraine, steeped in European craftsmanship, making everything from classical chandeliers to contemporary lighting pieces—and now finding a new home in the 7th district. I love it when brands carry their heritage with them rather than reinvent themselves beyond recognition. In this case, the tradition is still there, but it’s meeting Vienna’s creative energy in a way that feels fresh rather than nostalgic.

Romana Zavadski stepping into the family business and using the Founders Lab to rethink their model for Austria feels like a perfect example of this. It’s not just about opening a showroom; it’s about embedding a creative legacy into a new cultural context. The fact that they’re already collaborating with Austrian partners like Schöler & Co. shows how naturally these connections can form when the ecosystem is healthy.

I haven’t made it to the showroom yet, but I can already imagine the atmosphere. That blend of meticulous craftsmanship and contemporary art, the quiet self‑assurance of a family brand that doesn’t need to shout to be noticed, and that unmistakable feeling of walking in for the lighting and staying because the space itself pulls you in.

I love that they even have a Coffee Corner for visitors during events—because of course they do. In Vienna, creativity and coffee are inseparable.
