Finding the right kindergarten can feel overwhelming for parents, but the local government has just made life a whole lot easier. A new online platform now offers a comprehensive overview of all 1,668 kindergarten locations in the city —including 1,266 private and 402 municipal facilities.

Every officially licensed institution is listed, giving families a clear, reliable starting point. Childminders aren’t included yet, but the coverage is still impressively wide.

As a parent, I know how stressful the search for the right kindergarten can be. This platform feels like a real lifesaver. Instead of endless phone calls or scattered information, everything is now in one place.

Parents can filter by location or type of provider, and instantly access practical details such as:

It’s exactly the kind of clarity and transparency we’ve been waiting for.

All necessary information can be found at www.wien.gv.at/bildung/kindergarten-suche.

While the platform doesn’t yet show the number of available places, that’s part of the long-term vision. For now, it already makes a huge difference by forwarding registrations directly to the relevant institutions. Even though the criteria for allocating places remain unchanged, the first step to registration has become much simpler and less stressful.

As a parent, I can’t help but feel grateful for this initiative. It’s not just about convenience—it’s about peace of mind. Knowing that I can quickly compare kindergartens, check their facilities, and start the registration process without confusion makes me feel more confident about making the best choice for my child.

This platform is more than just a database—it’s a thoughtful tool designed to support families. It shows that the city is listening to parents’ needs and investing in solutions that make everyday life easier. Personally, I see it as a step toward a more family-friendly, transparent, and supportive community.

It is precisely this kind of forward-looking, human-centred approach that explains why Vienna has been repeatedly ranked as the best city to live in. By combining practical services with emotional reassurance, the city demonstrates that quality of life is not only about infrastructure or economy, but about creating an environment where families feel valued, supported, and heard. Vienna’s commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and everyday convenience makes it a model for urban living worldwide.
